Abigail Phillips

Registered Dietitian

Hi! My name is Abigail Phillips, and I am a registered dietitian. Since I can remember, I have gravitated towards children, babysitting as early as people would let me! When I decided that pursuing a degree in nutrition was going to be my path, I automatically knew that I wanted to use the knowledge I obtained to help our most precious in the population. I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition Science, and furthered my education through my dietetic internship at Cornell University in conjunction with the University of Rochester Medical Center. My time practicing at the Golisano Children's Hospital in Rochester, New York only further drove home my love for children, and opened my eyes to the complexities of feeding them properly.

I now work at Children's Hospital in Omaha as a registered dietitian, and can confidently say I have a passion for feeding children; so when the opportunity to plan a menu that can reach more children presented itself, I obviously jumped at it!

Why organic, whole foods

are best for children

One of my food philosophies is to put whole foods first. This menu is packed with only that! Foods in their most natural, unprocessed forms. This menu is designed with your child in mind. It is loaded with all of the micro and macro nutrients to promote optimal growth and development, but leaves out any of the extra, unnecessary pesticides and ingredients.

Organic foods grown with less pesticides create some chemical, and nutrient differences in those foods. These organic foods have been shown to promote appropriate cognitive, physical, and emotional development, and in some instances provide even more benefits than conventionally grown foods. Some research suggests children following a mostly organic diet have better concentration, and emotional development when avoiding excessive exposure to certain pesticides and antibiotics. Those who consume mostly organic food are also likely to be at lower risk for chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes later in life.

It is important that we are feeding our children the best foods possible NOW, not only to promote cognitive, emotional, and physical development in the present, but to set them up for the healthiest life they can lead in the future.
